Hi,

pretty much the same as you would create any other account with an existing 
balance.

Either follow the examples in the docs, the loan account will be called 
something like Liabilities:Loan1, and give it the correct opening balance in 
the dialogue box

or.

if you've already created the loan account, create an opening balance transfer 
to Equity:Opening Balances
