In theory there is a "file magic".
For uncompressed XML file you can check for the begin:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<gnc-v2
But compressed, it is "hidden" in a gzip container.
I have never looked in a sqlite file.
The other SQL flavours have no specific file.
