These things pop up from time to time. Sometimes they want a lot more money. It's absolutely permitted under the GPL, but you should recognize that they're competing with a free download. Five bucks is pretty reasonable for the effort of burning a CD for you.

If you do buy it you should make sure that Gnucash.app is code-signed with my certificate before you move it to your own storage and try to open it.

Executable=/Applications/Gnucash.app/Contents/MacOS/Gnucash
Identifier=org.gnucash.Gnucash
Format=app bundle with Mach-O thin (x86_64)
CodeDirectory v=20500 size=2239 flags=0x10000(runtime) hashes=63+3 location=embedded
Signature size=8925
Timestamp=Dec 18, 2021 at 6:11:14 PM
Info.plist entries=19
TeamIdentifier=Y9EHT5WMK7
Runtime Version=11.3.0
Sealed Resources version=2 rules=13 files=11455
Internal requirements count=1 size=180

The macOS bundle a drag-and-drop app bundle. If there's an installer it's not legit. On Windows it is an installer and it's not code signed, but you can check the sha-256 hash of the installer against the hashes published in the release notes.

But either way it should be the same as what you got from the download, so what went wrong with that?

John Ralls
