[GNC] Startup issue - two windows

Would that Peppermint instance happen to be using LXDE as a DE by 
chance? It appears the OP is using the same and I seem to recall 
Peppermint once had it as a default.

I'm wondering if this has to do with certain package versions of parts 
of GTK.
