[GNC] Memorized Payees (aka Import Map) vs Renaming Rules

That would work.
On the one hand, one would have to periodically run search and replace operations. But one would save having to maintain a second translation table along side the existing Import Map.

Or failing that, a search and replace function?

Correction:
So for example, an incoming bank transaction:
TF 2023 2034-302 D $100
Could be automatically changed to:
Transfer to Fred Monthly Alimony D $100
The first facility adds the "Monthly Alimony" counter-account, and the
second does the description change ("TF 2023 2034-302" => Transfer to Fred).
(Note the key fixed typo at the end of the previous line!)
Sorry for the confusion.

Hi, I have two (mildly) related questions, but I will post them separately,
so the threads don't get confused.
Quicken has two facilities upon transaction import that interact with each
other:
1. Suggests a counter account (Quicken calls some of them
categories) based upon what was done with earlier transactions with the same
characteristics.
2. Translates the bank-supplied description entry into something
more friendly (Quicken call these "Renaming Rules").
So for example, an incoming bank transaction:
TF 2023 2034-302 D $100
Could be automatically changed to:
Transfer to Fred Monthly Alimony D $100
The first facility adds the "Monthly Alimony" counter-account, and the
second does the description change ("TF 2023 2034-302" => Monthly Alimony).
My question is this: Gnucash does the first part well with its Import Map
feature. Is there anything that can do the second part for me?
Thanks as always for all help,
Paul
