Could you give a couple examples of those "many things"? I can't think
of a single one. I _have_ seen the occasional gas station or other small
business accept debit cards but not credit cards, but only rarely.

To me these are the reasons to use credit cards:

* In the US, where I live and spend, credit cards have statutory
protections that debit cards do not, regarding unauthorized transactions
or unsatisfactory merchandise among others. (Some banks do offer those
with debit cards, but they can stop doing so whenever they want.)

* If there's a problem transaction in a debit card, the money is gone.
Even if I get it back eventually, that transaction may have caused
overdrafts along the way, owing to previously scheduled payments.

* Credit cards give me 25 days or more before I have to pay for a
purchase, with no interest or fees. (Like you, I always pay the full
balance due.) During that time my money is earning interest, currently
above the rate of inflation.

* All of my credit cards give me cash back on purchases. (Since the
bonus categories on two of my cards change periodically, I do have to
keep track of which card I should use on a given transaction, which can
be a nuisance.)
