[GNC] Move working files

To be clear, the main issue is the location of the backup/log files that GC makes.  The OP wished them out of the main directory so backups could easily avoid them.  Others, me included, wish them out of the main directory because they are needless clutter (at that directory level) to the clear organization of a bookkeeping system.

GC already has a path that it uses to manipulate these files.  The fix is simply to make that path configurable (probably with a default of “.”, i.e., the main directory?) so that the location can be controlled if desired.  This is about the configuration of GC not its detailed interaction with the OS.

As noted, transfering GC to a new system should be a simple matter of copying the files.  Nothing special that I am aware of.
