[GNC] gnucash-user Digest, Vol 255, Issue 13

Thank you guys.

Geert's suggestion actually worked! It was like Adrien said, "it opened
with just the 5 major accounts. I almost missed the New Accounts Page as
it was the very bottom of the list. If I had seen it before, I would have
thought that it was like opening a new company/person so would have ignored
it

I'm sorry, I should have given more detail in my opening message:

I've been using various flavors of Linux for about 25 years and GC a little
bit less. One of the first I learned was that the included GC was at least
to major versions old which is why I started using Flatpack. Currently,
I'm one PeppermintOS, a derivation of Debian. I am thinking about going to
Slackware as my first installation was a derivation called Vector Linux.

I've always opened GC by clicking on the data file, or a link to it.)
Unfortunately, opening from a link puts the backup in the directory where
the link is. I wrote a C program to switch to the data directory, move the
backups into another directory and delete the logs. Then it would open GC
with my data.

While the accounts are on tabs, I open reports in a separate window which
caused my original issue. I don't use the online banking features. I did
try the business feature but, as usual, it didn't fit what I needed to do.

You guys have done a bang-up job putting this together and I love not
having to close each year.

There is one feature I would like to see, though I doubt many would have a
use for it. I learned bookkeeping BC (Before Computer) so I learned the
paper/pencil method. I wish there was a report that would let me print a
General Journal much like what appears on screen for a particular period.
I would also like to print the various active accounts: Date GL 1st
Description, with debit and credit columns. While I would like a running
balance, I believe the proper way was totals at the bottom. Oh, and each
account would be its own page(s). I would do them myself but I'm having
enough trouble with C. I used to know 6502 Machine language, dBase III as
well as some Lotus Macros and Excel VBA. I'm not object oriented
depending on text so that I can trace what is going on.
