I do indeed have built-from-source GnuCash installed and that's likely the issue.
As an aside.
I was having issues with reports not displaying recently, hence installing with apt.
Whilst troubleshooting I found your mail

I added a comment to bug 799095 about it not just being NVIDIA drivers.
