All apps SHOULD have a way to export data and all apps should have a way 
to import data. But you have no reason to expect app B can directly 
import what app A exports.

However, it should not be HARD to do any necessary conversion if app B 
does not provide a tool for that. And 'nix users should be able to do 
the conversion shell language + library of standard 'nix utilities 
(complete language of type "string")

You may be in luck since many come to gnucash from QuickBooks so tools 
likely already exist.
