[GNC] Reconciling duplicate entries of same transaction

A credit card reconciliation has given me a discrepancy of several
hundred dollars. The account was reconciled a month or two ago, but
the I couldn’t get the latest statement to work. So I have laboriously
been working my way backwards to see where the problem(s) lie.

I was embarrassed to discover two transactions from recent months that
were each entered twice. In neither case, fortunately, did I actually
double-pay.

In the first case (“medical”), one version had previously been
successfully reconciled (displaying a Y tag); the other was tagged C,
indicating it had been not yet reconciled. I deleted that version,
which reduced the amount of the discrepancy.

In the other transaction (“grocery”), both versions had been
reconciled (Y tag). I’m pretty sure I can safely delete either one
(but of course, not both). I can’t think how the duplicate files got
through the earlier (monthly) reconciliation process. I’m pretty
consistent in reconciling bank accounts and credit cards — but perhaps
not 100 percent?

Also, am I correct in thinking that if the most current (bank)
statement reconciles, that constitutes a reconciled account, even if
getting there is a rocky road?

I want to do the right thing, here, so I offer advance thanks to those
who help struggling GnuCash users.

Regards,

Art
