Raspberry PI can handle USB drives no problem -- get an externally powered one, possibly hardware raid type one . You can load up NTFS package for it and share it out as CIFS which would be equivalent of a NAS box.

I'll need to take a closer look at CryptSync. I did go and install syncthing and am synchronizing GnuCash files for my family, my mom (I'm her Power of Attorney) and an eBay side hustle. Three sets of books. 
Three completely different sets of banks/credit cards/debit cards, ...

I yoinked my GnuCash files off Google drive and Microsoft OneDrive.

Next up is a backup solution. I back up my Ubuntu desktop to USB and my
Win11 laptop to OneDrive. I have a Raspberry PI 3B in a little enclosure setting unused. I have a tablet style display for it, and a USB drive to connect to it. I need to fire it up and see if it can power a traditional USB drive. I also have an SSD drive, but don't really trust that for long term use as a backup. Alternatively, I could just buy a NAS.

I want to get away from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive for sensitive files.
