To answer your specific question:

(a) Try some debugging:

(b) Divide & Conquer:
Split your input file in half and try again.  If it works, try the next 
half.  If it fails, go back to (b).


To achieve your goal:

Be patient.  Learn from those who have gone before you and start with a 
much much smaller input file.  Try importing a single transaction, then 
a day's transactions, then a whole month, than a whole year.  See what 
works and what doesn't.  Backup and restore as you go along.

I have been doing QIF imports for over a decade.  The QIF Importer 
works, but does get bogged down as the input file gets larger and larger.
