[GNC] How to merge one category ( in gnucash called account) via command line or graphical approach.

I don't understand what you are describing. In what mode are you creating transactions? And where are these menus to which you refer? 

What is the "Asset & Income" group, and where is it located? For example, my Chart of Accounts has top level accounts for Assets, Equity, Expenses, Income, and Liabilities (standard accounting,  BTW). I don't have an Assets & Income. Where do you see this? 

What are the exact full name of the problem accounts? For example, I have my checking account as Assets:Checking. What are yours? Is it possible that you're actually trying to use the same account from different spots in the app? 

I believe GnuCash uses a hidden code to identify an account, so in theory one should be able to repeat an account name, but I could be wrong about the data entry limitations there.
