GnuCash can do this. I do it routinely.
The step-by-step instructions for entering a transaction like this are
in the GnuCash Guide, section 6.4. "Multiple Split Transactions".

following that section methodically, with one of your purchases. When
you encounter an obstacle, you could send a follow-up to the list,
explaining what you tried and how what you are seeing differs from what
section 6.4 says.
Also tell us what version of GnuCash you are using, and on what OS.
GnuCash behaviour differs over versions and OSs.
