[GNC] upgrading from v 3.8 to v 5.12

In some upgrade (probably 4.<something>), a MAJOR fix was made that makes
it blindingly fast now. It truly is a "blink and you'll miss it").

I mention this in case you run at and it seems that nothing happens.
