[GNC] multiple sub-entries

Jeff,

I too switched to Transaction Journal when learning GnuCash.

I tried switching back to Basic, and Auto-Split but didn't care for
either, so stuck with Transaction Journal and have been using that
exclusively for 10+ years now.
-----

With auto-fill so many of my receipts consist of either just changing
amounts or simply beginning to type in memos and the rest fills in,
including the relevant account. It takes a bit of time slow going at
first, but that speeds up considerably as you enter more data.
-----

Also, you didn't mention this specifically in your question, but I
highly recommend setting up an Expense:Sales Tax account of some sort.
When I enter such reciepts, I enter the Sales Tax as its own split line.
Trying to divide the tax amongst the other lines can be quite cumbersome
when rounding inevitably doesn't come out clean. Plus it is way less
work as a separate line item and much faster for data entry. (and easier
to cross-check against the receipt itself)

Regards,
Adrien

I'll have to remember to switch between those two views whenever I'm entering a split transaction. I find the view of the register confusing in 4.13 when looking at single line entries.
