Have you tried it?  I did just now, with a GC file that contained
nothing later than 2017, and Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, and Profit and
Loss all default to the current years. So if you're talking about
"look[ing] at that year's figures" in reports, you'll still have to
"change dates".

I'm in 4.14, so it's possible that report defaults are different in 5.x,
but I'd be surprised.
