Jerry, welcome to GnuCash.

Even if you had transactions, you would have got no data as an initial
response when you requested a Transaction Report. This is how most GC
reports work: you click a report in the menu, and it appears with some
default settings (options) which are usually not what you want. You
click Options in the strip at the top of the GC window, select your
accounts and other options, then click Apply or OK and the report
appears to present them.

I deliberately picked a date range that I knew contained no
transactions, to mimic your currently empty database; please see
attached Screenshot1. GC presented a compact list of accounts.

But if what you want is to check for duplicate account names, why not
just go to the Accounts pane and sort by Account Name? As you can see
from Screenshot 2, the sort is alphabetical at each level of the tree.
So Expenses as a group come after Assets as a group; within Expenses,
the accounts are grouped by the parents Food and Drink, Housing
Expenses, and so on. But it's fast, and you don't have to fiddle around
with five screens of report options.
