There is a way to do that (at least on Linux).
Press and hold Ctrl
Move mouse pointer to parent account
Left click on parent account
Left click on Select Children
Release Ctrl

Doing Ctrl along with left mouse click is a way to add/remove specific accounts without altering the other accounts.
