By combining the " postage expense" purchased for (pending 
reimbursement),  cash disbursement, clearing reimbursement liability, 
and finally cash received back in (the declined reimbursement amount) 
donation ----- we get debit "postage expense" credit "donations.

The "in kind" category should be reserved for goods coming in that would 
not be authorized for reimbursement. The board opts not to authorize 
money for a new office chair so somebody donates one.
