Bob,

To take sceenhots fairly easily on Linux Mint, open your Software
manager (from main Linux Mint menu or the menu sidbar) and install the
Gnome-screenshot application. It will then come up in the LM menu under
Accessories and you can then drag the icon onto the task bar at the
bottom of the screen for convenience rather than having to open the
main menu all the time. Just click on the icon for Screenshot and the
app comes up.

This will allow you to take screenshots of the whole screen, a single
window or tab or a selection of an area on the screen using the options
displayed in the app popup. This can be useful to limit exposing a lot
of personal informationYou can set a delay of a few seconds after you
have made the selection of what to capture before the app captures what
is on the screen (it hides the screenshot popup).

The screen will flash when it is captured and then a another popup will
come up allowing you to choose a folder and file name to save the
screenshot. Pictures->Screenshots is usually the default folder from
memory, but you can chose any folder in your home directory. I use the
Downloads folder because I clear it regularly and there is usually no
IIneed to keep screenshots permanently

If you are using Thunderbird, from memory when you compose a message
one of the menu options on the message editor will be to attach a file
and there is also likely a button somewhere on the editor window. When
the file explorer (Nemo) popup comes up navigate to where you saved the
screenshot and select it and it will then be sent along with the
message/reply you are composing.
