[GNC] Asset accounts in wrong order on Balance Sheet

Stan,
The Accounts pane or page can be sorted by the account code. If you click on the "Account Code Title" it will sort on that account. Yours is probably set to the description.

Thanks for the tip about editing the Account Code in Place, I didn't know you could do that. We all learn something new sometimes!

Thank You,

Paul,

You made your account numbers part of the account names. I don't have
any explanation why they are not sorting alphabetically,(*) but I do
have something easy you can try.

All of my accounts have four-digit numeric Account Codes in the Accounts
tab. Without my doing anything special in Gnucash, the accounts appear
in Account Code order in every report I've tried. So my suggestion is to
assign your account numbers as Account Codes to the accounts that aren't
sorting as you wish, and see if that helps. You need not remove the
numbers from the account names.

You don't have to click the Edit button for each account in turn. Just
make Account Code one of the columns on the Accounts tab, and then a
double-click in that column will let you edit the Account Code in place.
I suggest doing this initially for just your six Current Assets
subaccounts, because if it doesn't work as desired then I think
something else must be going on.

The account picker that pops up when you enter transactions sorts
alphabetically rather than by Account Code; so does the Accounts pane
itself. If your account numbers are the first part of your account
names, as they are now, I'm pretty sure the account picker will be
ordered by account code, which might be helpful. However, I don't have
account numbers as part of my account names, and I've observed when
entering a transaction I can type either the Account Code or the
beginning of the account name when entering a transaction; the Account
Code (if I type it) automatically changes to the associated account name.

(It would have been a good idea to tell us which version of GC and which
operating system you're using.)

(*) You wouldn't have different non-printing characters at the start of
your account names, would you?
