Hello! Sometimes it is the simpler things that give problems.

When you say you "created and entered my account" - what kind of account
did you create? My checking (from the account "edit" option) is a "Bank"
account" whose security/currency is in "USD (US Dollars)" with the
"Smallest fraction" set to "Use commodity value". Some accounts that are
not in US dollars allow you to specify the fraction of the currency. You'll
need to verify how your account is set up.
