Michael, I recognised different software uses different names for similar
reports. Mentioning the GnuCash Transaction Report option sorting Show
subtotals only (hide transaction data) doesn't twist anything. One click in
options to hide/unhide transaction detail would be really useful in OP's
use case to verify account totals. This very useful *functionality* as
provided in the Profit and Loss statement by QuickBooks would be even more
suitable for the OP.
To elaborate:
1. A Transaction report reports account transactions, normally with an
account subtotal
2. A Profit and loss report reports account totals for income, expenses
and nett
3. The GnuCash Transaction Report option sorting Show subtotals only
(hide transaction data) should format the account totals as normal data
lines
4. It would be useful if the GnuCash Profit and Loss report could show
transaction detail but I understand this would be a significant
(unrealistic) rewrite given it is based on a different report to the
transaction report.
5. In my view sorting the transaction report by Income and Expenditure
would allow transaction detail to be shown/hidden and give the same
functionality as a profit and loss report with the exception of totals,
though it would look much better if account totals were formatted as normal
data lines
Regarding the QuickBooks aside you mention, features I use for my business
(recognising the closed proprietary data format):
1. Cash accounting with automatic sales tax splits (Michael this has
nothing to do with POS)
2. Sales inventory eg [image: image.png]
3. Transaction classifications
4. Profit and loss report by class eg [image: image.png]
