Hi Cam, John, & GNUCash users,
https://repology.org/project/gnucash/versions - it looks like Debian
bookworm-backports uses GNUCash 5.6 in the repositories.
https://github.com/flathub/org.gnucash.GnuCash/blob/master/modules/boost.json
- the Flatpak, version 5.11, seems to use version 1.85 of boost
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boost_(C%2B%2B_libraries) &
https://www.boost.org/ - it seems like the current version of boost is
1.88
I'm not sure how relevant those updates are to this issue, but I did
notice the difference.

Rebooting the machine solved the problem. The stack trace repeated the
error message above. It's been a while since the kernel was updated, but
the change would have occurred then. I suspect the boost libs somehow
triggered something.
Anyway, all is well, and thank you for pointing me in the right
direction.
Cheers
Cam
