[GNC] personal accounting. Work flow?

I'm using GnuCash for our neighborhood association, but still using
Desktop QuickBooks for personal finance. I pay almost everything with a
credit card and keep the receipts. Every week or so, I enter the
transactions into QB by hand. When I get a statement on the credit card or
on a bank account, I reconcile the account within a few days. I tried
linking QB to our credit union years ago, and it was a disaster. A large
number of transactions were then duplicated, and it took me several weeks
to straighten things out. I have QB print checks for some bills, but most
payments are done using the credit union Bill Payer service. For those, I
make the payment on the credit union web site, including scheduling future
payments, then make the corresponding entry as a general journal entry in
QB. There are some payments that are the same every month (such as
mortgage), so I have these set up as recurring payments in both the credit
union bill payer service and in QB. Not getting more than a week behind on
making the entries keeps the job manageable and helps in remembering what
something on a nondescript receipt was for. Also, reconciling the credit
card statements finds those payments that were made where we managed to
lose the receipt.
