My workflow is as complete and simple as possible.
I'm using cash less than once a month these days, so I just enter cash
transactions at the end of the day while I still remember the amount,
location, and account.
All other daily transaction are via credit card. I've set up all of my
banking to send me notifications via email of any changes. At the end of
the day, I enter transactions into Gnucash for each email. With
autofill, this takes literally seconds.
I do not need, therefore, to download transactions from my banks for
credit cards, checking accounts, and cash. When the statement arrives, I
reconcile normally.
I also do not bother with receipts for such things as dining or
groceries. If they are printed, I take them home for privacy and put
them in my to-shred bag. I try to get PDF receipts via email for
valuable items that might require receipts for future needs; otherwise,
I scan them and put the paper in the to-shred bag.
I download and import transactions from my financial institutions on a
quarterly basis if available or enter transactions from the quarterly
statements. I then reconcile those accounts.
