Doug,

No problems; I'm just trying to ensure that people realize that the wiki
actually has pretty detailed information on this specific issue, rather
than going the Google route.

I agree that the wiki page on this topic is extremely dense. If I hadn't
sworn off contributing to GnuCash's documentation, I'd take a stab at
rewriting this to make it easier for average users. Since it's a wiki, you
could certainly do so. It is often the newest user who has the clearest and
freshest insight into how to be helpful to others.

I will note that the instructions apply to all operating systems (my
settings.ini is managing reasonably well on Windows 11), but that the
instructions are rather Linux-geeky. That contributes to the new user
confusion, since the instructions cover so many possibilities.

Jerry fixed his problem using my help. My comment on the Wiki
documentation is that it is pretty complete, but probably

(like much documentation) written by programmers: The info is there, but
there needs to be an understanding of how Linux

works. I guess Jerry is possibly a recent convert to Linux (Perhaps a M$
W10 refugee!), so is possibly finding

difficulties navigating the Linux system. In my opinion, I feel there is
a need to give these users a hand until they

  become competent on Linux.

So, I am not criticising, but I would be happy to proof read any
documentation changes, if it helps. I am only a user,

but happy to offer my help f required. One thing I have found is when one
proof reads documentation, one increases

  knowledge.

  regards, Doug
