[GNC] Opinion on Year-End and Linux.

Dear all.

1. For year-end I journal all expenses and income (Income Statement
stuff) to Equity. The learned autocompletes are remembered. The books
start at zero, meaning for budgetary reasons a quick look gives you
information for the current year. GC is different this way, my previous
system required month-end and year-end processing.

2. Linux. Early adopters years ago might have needed a certain geek
level. Linux in its various flavours has matured significantly since then.
If you are even considering Linux as a Windblows alternative I suggest
that you download it and run a test session by booting on a USB stick.
I think that all releases offer this.
Linux basic operating system really comes in a few varieties, I will
only talk about Ubuntu as this underlies most popular flavours. Its like
buying a car with different accessories, nothing to be confused about.
Personally I chose the most statistically popular version/flavour. Linux
Mint Cinnamon, because there is a large user base and the support is
extensive and of course free.

Linux is not the all bells and all whistles like W11. I use it for
different reasons, Solid, Reliable, Virus resistance and most
importantly, you OWN it, there is no cloud BS and subscriptions, and it
does nothing in the background without your permission. Backups are easy
(Simply drag your "User" to another drive) No drivers, everything just
works.

As far as support, there are thousands of geeks sitting at their
keyboards dying to help you for free.

To the devs and list manager. I write the above because there are so
many Windows related problems on this list.  I am sure that some GC
users would benefit making the transition like my family did.
