Indeed, maybe.

But everything hinges on each OS interpreting the file path correctly.

Since folks using external locations such as DropBox and other cloud 
providers seems to work (pointing to a local file in a sync folder) then 
presumably, this does work out cross-platform.

But I have yet to hear back any definitive answer on that point.

By all means, give it a go and let us know!
