[GNC] Kind of a Philosophical Question about Transaction Dates

Just to explicitly state one point in Harold's response to Brook...

When using the Reconcile process, there can be items in the reconcile window that are not yet on the bank statement. There is no need to change any dates on them, just leave them unchecked. They will still be there for the next reconciliation when they probably will be on the bank statement.

Harold mentioned checking off items that appear in the statement. He didn't mention leaving items that don't appear in the statement unchecked. From the original poster's question, I got the impression they might have thought they were supposed to check off every item in the Reconciliation window.

Best wishes,
Will

It is quite common to have oustanding checks that have not yet cleared and
do not show on the statement (yet). When reconciling the account, you have
the statement starting balance (which is the ending balance from the
previous statement) and the statement ending balance. You then check off
all the deposits and checks (or other charges) that have cleared. The
reconciliation keeps track of the difference between the cleared balance
in GC and the statement ending balance. When reconciliation is complete,
the difference is zero, and you are done! You should not need to change
any dates. I always use the date the check is written and do not change it
after that.
