cannot locate old accounts

You should be able to just point gnucash to your old files (in 
~/.gnucash by default) and have it work.

However, if your new setup doesn't use the exact same user number for 
you as the old setup, you could have a permissions problem.  If that's 
the case, you can go in as root and chown everything to the correct user.
