gnucash2 altering data file?

Hi,
  	I noticed when trying out gnucash2 it rewrote the data file 
without prompting. It still seems to be readable with gnucash 1.8.12. Is 
there anything I should worry about with the rewritten file in gnucash 
1.8.12?
