I wouldn't recommend using Postgres right now.  It's not well supported,
the code has bitrotted, and it doesn't support any features that have
been added since 1.6.  Any of the features added in 1.8 or 2.0 will crash
gnucash if you use the PG backend.

There's work underway to build a GDA-based backend.  See the gda-dev
branch in SVN.  You're welcome to help there, but it's still a
development project and not looking for testers, yet.
