Filter accounts in drop-down lists

I would add that I do not believe having these accounts adds significant computing overhead in normal operation, although David's notes about account selection are valid. There may be effects when loading reports; I understand that the logic in many reports is not optimal, and additional accounts may have detrimental effect on them.

I am not in a jurisdiction that has a defined set of accounting books (as I understand some countries have); if I were, I might keep the entire defined set--even if many accounts are empty and unused--in part to remind myself to watch for these transactions, and in part to assure any oversight agency that your accounts are following the guidelines.

As a fellow user, I would say that it is strictly up to you.  If unused
accounts are deleted reports will be simpler and easier to configure and
read.  It is a nearly trivial matter to add accounts later if you decide
to make your records more detailed.  If you are not sure how to
structure a more complete chart of accounts, there are lots of examples
in the manuals.  You could even create a new test file pre-configured
with whatever sample chart you want, just to see what you get.

I personally delete some and hide others.
