currency trading accounts and balance sheet

I am trying to figure out how to handle a foreign currency using trading
accounts but encountered the following questions. 

Gnucash Version 2.4.11. The Gnucash file I tested with was USD based and had
one foreign currency CNY. Trading accounts option was enabled and the price
editor was set up to retrieve the exchange rates online. 

(I hope it is ok to attach images with the email here.) 

Question 1: How to include the CNY in the Balance Sheet totals?

I set up two bank accounts, USD Checking with $3000 and CNY Checking with
CNY 20,000 (see image: Accounts prior Exchange.png). The balance sheet at
this point (Balance prior Exchange.png) showed both the checking accounts
but included only the USD Checking in the total. Why was this? The reporting
currency was set to use the default, USD. How can I get the CNY checking
included in the total asset, in its USD equivalent?

Question 2: Balance Sheet not showing totals

I made a transfer of $1000 from the USD Checking to the CNY Checking. The
trading accounts received the proper entries (Accounts post Exchange.png).
But the balance sheet at this point (Balance post Exchange.png) showed no
totals, just the $ signs. Did I miss something that caused this problem?

I'd appreciate any insight you can offer to help me solve these issues.
