Log:
As a first test, create and commit a German translation of most of the 
start page. 

However, using gettext for a webpage actually really is not a good idea.
A translator would rather always translate a full page, potentially
choosing completely different paragraph groupings or headers. The
gettext system rather pretends to the English writer that a
sentence-by-sentence translation were possible for other languages,
whereas in reality this is merely possible for en_GB but no other
language out there.
