1.4.2: create hierarchies, no type for top-level?

Danger, newbie user alert.

After importing all-accounts (with all buttons checked except Mac)
from Quicken2000 it shows my accounts. Some appear to be under others,
like:

        Chris IRA Bankname
           Chris Bankname IRA

This seems odd. I did change the name of the account in quicken
somewhat recently from the latter to the former. No idea why it has
both or why there's a parent-child relationship.

What I'd like is a hierarchy for myself, my S.O., and our shared
stuff, like

        Chris
          bank1
          ira
          visa
        S.O.
          bank2
          ira
        Shared
          house
          bills

I can create top-level accounts and put my accounts under my top
level. The new top-level accounts, like any other account, must have
a type assigned like Bank, Stock, Income, ... Will this confuse
things, if I have a top-level account as a place-holder of type (say)
Equity, but put other real accounts of various types under it?

Or is this a stupid thing to do? Suggestions?

Thanks.
