FYI: I found this message as a pretty cogent argument against running
indent in a CVS trigger (as I'd suggested to rlb on IRC):

In general, I still really like the idea of "canonicalizing" indentation,
if for no other reason than it allows each programmer to use one style
consistently across all projects to which they contribute, trusting the
infrastructure to "do the right thing".
Of course, if the infrastructure to "do the right thing" doesn't exist,
what can you do? Sigh...
