OK, that's a clue.  Pretty much all of our development is on Linux,
and testing under FreeBSD is pretty limited.  We definitely want to
get FreeBSD working, but it's sort of hard to get test coverage with a
userbase of ~3 :)  Let me keep investigating on my end.
