Recent patches break Solaris

Thanks.  It's fixed for now.  I realize that most people here
don't care about (or don't have access to) other platforms,
so sometimes it can be extremely difficult to _test_ your
changes to make sure they work.

The best one can hope for is conservative programming. :)
