profiling gnucash

Has anyone recently compiled GNC using --enable-profile?

I just tried (1.8.5 to be) and it compiled sucessfully, but gives this 
error when running the executable:

lapham at bilbo > /opt/gnucash-1.8/bin/gnucash
ERROR: In procedure 
:
ERROR: Wrong type argument in position 8738980: (#<unknown-immediate 
0x2cec> #<smob 413ab000> . #i(Segmentation fault

I actually compiled thusly:
make clean
./autogen.sh --enable-profile --prefix=/opt/gnucash-1.8/ --enable-debug

Is my "make clean" clean enough?

Hints?  Suggestions?  Money?
