You also need to make sure you do it correctly _everywhere_.. :(

There isn't a good way to find out..  The way I do it is running gnucash
under gdb and seeing where I get the errors, and then looking in the
code and printing out the stack to figure out the menu item.

Yep.  The problem is that the menus use the translated strings to
identify menu items.  It should be better with gnome2 -- they don't
use the translated strings anymore.
