http://gnucash.org/en/lists.phtml still starts with 

"GnuCash Mailing Lists


Due to a Hard Drive Outage, the GnuCash Mailing Lists are Offline. If you Plan 
to Subscribe to These Lists, it is Likely your Subscription Will be Dropped. 
If you are already a member, you can use these lists, however, Some Newer 
Subscribers May Not Receive Your Email. (we lost all sbuscriber info since 12 
dec 2002) Please be Patient While We Fix Things; We Will Get These Lists 
Working In the Next Day or Two. "


I think that is not true any more and may be removed...
