I too have default currency EURO and some stock in USD. However, when in
buy an USD stock I pay in EURO (I don't have an USD bank account). That's
what I record in GnuCash: buy 10 USD stock for 100 EUR -> price is 10 EUR.
For reports GnuCash can convert USD prices from the online quotes to EUR.
You need to retrieve the EUR/USD currency rate. To get this you need an
account of type "curreny" (Währung in german) with currency USD.
