Saving customized reports (reloaded)

Followed the procedure given.

Did not work. 

The custom report was not installed, i.e., it was not listed in the files 
output by the makefile. 

Also, no custom report in the report menu in gnucash.

Modified the files: Makefile and Makefile.in

by hand and executed "su -c 'make install'"

Now the makefile output lists the custom report file as installed. 

However, gnucash has no access to the custom report. It is not listed on the 
report menu anywhere.

Any ideas?

running gnucash 1.8.9 under RH 9 (kernal 2.4.20-20)
