Problem with QOF_TYPE_COLLECT

Where an API function is redefined with a new name e.g.
$ cd gnucash-gnome2/src/engine/
$ grep "define gnc" *.h

Most, in this case, are from gncObject.h, QueryCore.h and QueryNew.h

Are these all deprecated? Should they be?

Are they just historical or is there an advantage?
