Failing automake when trying to build version from CVS

That is correct. You need:
libgwrap-runtime0-dev,  libgwrap-runtime0, guile-g-wrap and g-wrap.

The libgwrapguile1 package is v1.3 - you don't want that.

Check the versions of each library and install all the 1.9 ones:

g-wrap : 1.9.6-3
libgwrap-runtime0 : 1.9.6-3
libgwrap-runtime0-dev : 1.9.6-3
guile-g-wrap : 1.9.6-3

You don't want these:
libgwrapguile-dev : 1.3.4-15
libgwrapguile1 : 1.3.4-15
(or anything else g-wrap related that is 1.3)
