Status of #434944

This bug is still affecting me in GC 2.2.7 on Mac OSX (Installed via Fink).

I'm assuming 2.2.8 and trunk still have the issue as well since the 
status in Bugzilla is still Unconfirmed.  I'd be interested in helping 
roll this along through a fix process.  I'm interested if anyone already 
  has any knowledge of why the problem occurs and what the necessary fix 
entails.
